BOISE (CBS2) — To make it easier to vote, smoother to cast your absentee ballot this election, Ada County has added four more drop boxes to the one that's always been at Ada County Election Headquarters on Benjamin Lane in Boise.
"We are adding drop box locations for this election," said Phil McGrane, Ada County clerk."So if for some reason somebody thinks they don't have enough time to get to a mail-in ballot and they don't think they have enough time to get it back to us, they can take advantage of one of the dropbox locations and get their vote in on time."
They are located at Boise City Hall, Eagle City Hall, Meridian City Hall, Kuna City Hall, and, of course, the one at Ada County Election Headquarters.
"The ballots must be in our hands by 8 p.m. on Nov. 3," said McGrane. "So if you think it's getting too close, take advantage of those drop boxes."
Because the drop boxes are so important, we wondered just how secure are they, say, if a bad actor wanted to break into one and steal the goods.
Or just do some nasty vandalism.
Of course, each box is locked, and ballots are picked up daily by two election workers.
The frequency of the pickup will increase as the election moves forward.
The drop boxes are equipped with a fire suppression system and they're watched by surveillance cameras at each location and additional video surveillance, we're told, will be added.
