Building Division

The Building Division is responsible for the enforcement of building codes and zoning ordinances and subsequently maintaining records concerning the construction, alteration, or demolition of buildings or structures.
In 2004 a Michigan State law went into effect causing all communities to adopt and enforce two uniform building codes known as the “Michigan Building Code” and the “Michigan Residential Code”. The purpose of the codes are to establish the minimum requirements to safeguard the public health, safety, and general welfare through structural strength, means of egress facilities, stability, sanitation, adequate light and ventilation, energy conservation, and safety to life and property from fire and other hazards attributed to the built environment and to provide safety to fire fighters and emergency responders during emergency operations.

The Building Division is proud to serve the community and consider our responsibilities to be a public service. Our mission is to provide an efficient user friendly permit process and to maintain accurate records which will help provide a high standard of living in the City of Warren.
